Description

Here we have a 1970s LeJour Black PVD Chronograph, featuring a black PVD-coated tonneau-shaped case that sits comfortably on your wrist, with hooded lugs, nicknamed the ‘Poor-Man's Heuer’. Its curved flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 42mm and a case thickness of 13mm. Down the right side, we have the chronograph pushers and a coin-edged crown in the centre. Its domed crystal sits above a dynamic matte black bicompax dial. An outer sloped Tachymeter scale chapter ring surrounds a precisely executed minute track with Tritium-coated baton indexes marking the hours, at 3 o’clock a 30-minute register, at 6 o’clock a framed date window and finally at 9 o’clock a running seconds, black and white baton hands filled with Tritium are complemented by an orange tapered chronograph hand. At noon, we have the LeJour motif, printed underneath and at 6 o’clock, ‘Chronograph’ ‘17 Jewels’ ‘Incabloc’ completes this stealthy vintage bicompax. On the reverse, a screw-down stainless steel case back is engraved with the details of the watch and inside a manually wound Valjoux 7734, 17 jewels, beating at a leisurely 18,000 beats per hour. It comes paired with its rare 19mm black PVD-coated Spidel sprung bracelet, which will fit up to a 7.1-inch wrist.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and, therefore, comes with no original LeJour box or paperwork. It is paired with its rare 19mm black PVD-coated Spidel sprung bracelet, which will fit up to a 7.1-inch wrist. The watch is from the Circa 1970s and is sold in worn vintage condition, with wear across the case, scratches on the crystal and a delightful patina on the dial, as you can see from the photos. The watch comes with our 12-Month NON-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

This wonderful LeJour is often referred to as the 'Poor Man's Heuer', dare I say this is possibly the 'Smart Man's Heuer'? Powered by the Valjoux 7734, this black PVD chronograph packs a punch on and off the wrist, especially paired with this matching vintage black PVD Fixoflex bracelet. I would not hesitate to add this watch to your collection today, especially at this price, it's a no-brainer!

About LeJour

Le Jour was a French distributor during the 1960s. Yema used the brand to introduce its watches into the USA. They produced many watches and chronographs with the help of Heuer, using quality Swiss Valjoux movements. During the 1980s quartz revolution, like many other European watch bands, Le Jour soon went out of business. Roll on 30 years, and the brand has been revitalised with authorised dealers across the world. They were producing many watches taken from their heritage, such as the MK1 001, a modern re-issue of the classic chronograph 7203 with its barrel-shaped case and fitted with a Valjoux 7750 movement.
