Here we have a rare 1970s Ebel 18ct Yellow Gold Black Dial 'Tank' featuring a 25mm 18ct yellow gold ‘Tank’ case that sits comfortably on your wrist, thanks to the beautiful stepped screwed lugs. Its straight flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 36mm and a case thickness of just 5.5mm. On the right side, a coin-edged black cabochon-capped crown. The stepped theme continues with the slim, smooth bezel holding a flat crystal above an incredible black, sterile dial, possibly made of Onyx. Elegant gold Dauphine hands sit majestically in the centre. At noon, we have the Ebel motif completing this sophisticated dress watch. On the reverse, an 18ct yellow gold solid snap-off case back. Inside a manually wound ETA Cal. 2512, 17 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour. It comes paired with its 19mm Ebel leather strap and signed gold-plated pin buckle.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold “Watch Only” and, therefore, without its Ebel box and paperwork. It comes paired with its rare 19mm Ebel leather strap and signed gold-plated pin buckle. The watch is from Circa 1970s and is sold in worn vintage condition, but overall, it is in fair condition, as you can see from the photos. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

There is no denying that the 'Tank' shape has become synonymous with style and elegance, and this has been dominated by the Cartier Tank, and rightfully so, but we forget many other brands also dipped their toes in this format, and some, like this Ebel, knocked it out of the park. This is a wonderful Ebel 18ct Yellow Gold 'Tank' from the 1970s and features a wonderful 25mm by 36mm case, which demands its wrist presence. The dial is a deep black, possibly Onyx, absolutely mesmerising in person. I would not hesitate to add this to your collection today. I had never seen one before this, and I highly doubt I will again anytime soon!

About Ebel

Eugene Blum and Alice Levy, husband and wife, joined their initials together (Eugène Blum Et Lévy) to form the brand name Ebel in 1911. Based in La Chaux de Fonds, the company was taken over by their son, Charles, in 1932, where he began to concentrate the business, branching out overseas before Blum’s grandson, Pierre Alain, took over. It was at this point, in 1932, that Ebel began creating wristwatches for Cartier. Later, Ebel became part of the LVMH Group and then the Movado Group by the end of 2003.
