1970s Doxa SUB 600 T Spirotechnique 39mm Auto

Here we have a classic 1970s Doxa SUB 600 T Spirotechnique Auto made in collaboration between Doxa and French diving brand La Spirotechnique, which was directed by Jacques-Yves Cousteau and Émile Gagnan who in 1946 produced the world's first modern regulator and other specialist dive equipment, earlier inventing the Aqua-Lung in 1943 and famously bringing the beauty of the depths to mass audiences at the Cinema in 1956 with their film The Silent World (La Monde Du Silence) which won a Hollywood Oscar. Air Liquide acquired U.S. Divers in 1956, which saw the beginning of the company's expansion into new markets with new offices in multiple countries, including Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom and Australia. A 39mm tonneau-shaped stainless steel case with a brushed chamfered edge running around the top side of the flat-ended lugs, a lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side at 4 o’clock, a signed coin-edged crown sticking out at an angle, and a polished unidirectional bezel has a serrated edge for grip and a black diver insert. The flat crystal sits above a matte black dial, an outer minute track surrounds pillows of Tritium-coated markers at the hours, and at 3 o’clock, there is a framed date window. Large white baton hands filled with Tritium are complemented by a white counterweighted sweeping second hand; at 4 o’clock, we have “SUB 600T Professional”, and in the upper left, the Doxa motif, upper right “, Spirotechnique” logo and bottom leaf a Tritium coated diver, completing this dynamic collaboration vintage dive watch. On the reverse, there is a screw-down case back, inside an automatic ETA Cal. 2872, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, a workhorse quality movement with hand winding and hacking seconds. It comes paired with its original and rare 20mm “Beads of Rice” stainless steel bracelet secured by a glide adjustable clasp (Expandro DB PAT 2111820), which will fit up to a 7.1-inch wrist plus a 20mm rubber strap. 

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and, therefore, comes with no DOXA box or DOXA paperwork. It comes paired with its original and rare 20mm “Beads of Rice” stainless steel bracelet secured by a glide adjustable clasp (Expandro DB PAT 2111820), which will fit up to a 7.1-inch wrist plus a 20mm rubber strap. The watch is from Circa mid/Late 1970s and is in worn, vintage condition, as you can see. Doxa was established in 1889 in Le Locle, Switzerland, by Georges Ducommun. In 1921, Doxa became Bugatti's supplier of dash clocks. In 1925 Georges became the vice president of the Swiss Horology Society. 1936 saw Georges' passing, and the company was now in the hands of son-in-law Jaques Nardin, the grandson of Ulysse Nardin. In 1944, the company was renamed “Manufacture des Montre DOXA”. The company was finally sold in 1997 to the Jenny family, transferring their headquarters to Bienne, Switzerland.
