A 1970s Certina Jubilé, a beautifully minimalist dress watch that showcases the elegance of understated Swiss watchmaking. Its ultra-slim stainless steel case and striking vertically brushed blue dial create a refined yet distinctly period-correct aesthetic, while the clean baton markers and slender sword hands allow the dial's texture and colour to take centre stage. At just 6mm thick, it wears effortlessly on the wrist and slips easily under a cuff, making it an ideal everyday dress watch. Powered by the manually wound Certina Calibre 396, based on the respected Peseux 7001 architecture, the Jubilé combines timeless styling, impressive mechanical pedigree, and the sort of restrained design that has aged remarkably well over the decades.

Description

Here we have a 1970s Certina Jubile Blue Dial Manual Cal. 396, featuring a round 34mm stainless steel case that comfortably fits your wrist, with fine, tapered, angled lugs. Its curved flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 41mm and a case thickness of just 6mm. On the right side, a signed crown. A chamfered-edged smooth bezel holds a flat crystal above a vertically brushed blue dial. Applied slim batons mark the hours, and fine sword hands sit majestically in the centre. At noon, we have the Certina motif, and at 6 o’clock, Jubilé completes this striking minimalist timepiece. On the reverse, a solid case back and inside a manually wound Certina Cal. 396, 17 jewels, beating at 21,600, based on the Peseux 7001. Personal Note

Watches like this Certina Jubilé are a wonderful reminder that some of the best vintage watches remain remarkably affordable. You don't need to spend a fortune to enjoy genuine vintage charm, mechanical craftsmanship, and a design that still feels fresh decades after it was made. This particular example has a lot going for it. The vertically brushed blue dial is absolutely stunning in person, catching the light beautifully while remaining wonderfully understated. Combined with the clean baton markers and elegant hands, it perfectly captures the minimalist design language of the era. What really impresses me, though, is just how slim it is. At an astonishing 6mm thick, it simply melts onto the wrist and disappears under a shirt cuff. Snap up this affordable vintage gem today!

About Certina

Certina was founded in 1888 by Adolf and Alfred Kurth in Grenchen, Switzerland. Here, they made movements and supplies for the watch industry. Shortly afterwards, they started making their own watches and grew their workforce from 3 to 250 in 1938, when they celebrated their 50th Anniversary. By 1955, they had 500 employees and produced 1000 watches a day. This expansion continued in 1971 when they were producing 600,000 watches every year with a workforce of 900. In 1983, Certina became a member of the Swatch group, and they continue to this day.
