The Watch
Here we have a rarely seen 1967 Universal Geneve Unisonic Rare Buzzsaw Dial 852101 with a 35.5mm “C-shaped” stainless steel case that sits on your wrist with stubby lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 39.5mm and a case thickness of 10mm ensures a comfortable fit. On the right side a slightly recessed signed crown. A thin bezel holds a domed acrylic crystal above a distinctive sunburst red buzzsaw dial, and an outer minute track is precisely executed with the ascending-sized baton markers in tones of red resulting in a creative aesthetic. At 3 o’clock a framed date window, slender baton hands are complemented by a tapered second hand. At 12 o’clock we have the Universal Geneve motif and at 6 o’clock “Unisonic”. On the reverse, a screw-down case back, inside a Tuning Fork Universal Genève calibre 2-51 is a licensed Accutron Calibre 2180F, developed by Max Hetzel and William Bennett of Bulova. The watch comes paired with a well-suited 20mm red leather strap.
Personal Note
One from the personal collection this time with this incredible 1967 Universal Geneve Unisonic Rare Buzzsaw Dial which I will regret selling immediately as I doubt I'll see another one, but you can not keep them all! With the recent acquisition of Universal Geneve by Breitling speculations are rampant on what they will make, one can dream they would re-release something as incredible and unapologetically 60s/70s as this, but I highly doubt they will... So add this one to your collection instead!
The Brand
Universal Genève was founded in 1894 in Le Locle, Switzerland as Universal Watch, by two Horology students Ulysses-Georges Perret and Numa-Emile Descombes. By 1919 they had moved their operations to Geneva and renamed the brand Universal Genève. They have been owned by Stelux, a Hong Kong investment group, since 1989.
