The Watch

Certina was founded in 1888 by Adolf and Alfred Kurth in Grenchen Switzerland. Here they made movements and supplies for the watch industry. Shortly afterwards they started making their own watches and grew their workforce from 3 to 250 in 1938 when they celebrated their 50th Anniversary. By 1955 they had 500 employees and were producing 1000 watches a day. This expansion continued in 1971 where they were producing 600,000 watches every year with a workforce of 900. In 1983 Certina became a member of the Swatch group which they continue to this day.

Here we have a 1966 Certina with a 33.5mm round case in stainless steel. The lugs have rounded edges and a gentle curve. A lug to lug length of 40.5mm and a thickness of 9mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side, a signed crown. A polished bezel holds a domes crystal. The cream dial has an outer minute track with lume pips and applied Arabic numerals and baton indexes marking the hours. At 6 o’clock a sub-seconds. Elegant dauphines hands have lume infill. At 12 o’clock a Cerina logo. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside a Manually Wound Certina Cal. 321, 18,000 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on an 18mm leather strap.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original Certina box or paperwork. The watch comes paired with a well-suited leather strap. The watch is from Circa. 1966 and is sold in worn, vintage condition, with signs of wear and age throughout but overall very fair condition as you can see. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

Certina is a brand that still has so much room for growth within the vintage world as the prices of your "usual" brands like Omega continue to skyrocket in price and become harder to find, collectors are looking elsewhere to brands like Certina, Tissot, Hamilton etc... Whilst they can still be had for such great deals like this, they are well worth picking up.
