1965 Zenith Manually Wound "Explorer Dial" 33.5mm

Here we have a classic 1965 Zenith Manually Wound "Explorer Dial" that has a 33.5mm round stainless steel case. Tapered lugs with a lug-to-lug length of 41mm and a thickness of 9mm ensure a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side, is a domed crown. A slim bezel holds a domed acrylic crystal. The silver dial has applied numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9 with thin batons between marking the hours at 6 o’clock a sub-seconds. The dial is reminiscent of an “Explorer dial” ref. 6580 of the same time period. Slim sword hands complete this classic minimalist dial. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside a manually wound Zenith Cal. 2531, 19 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour. It comes paired with a well-suited 17mm StrapTailor strap.

Zenith was founded in 1865 by 22-year-old watchmaker Georges Favre-Jacot. Their manufacturing was based in Le Locle, Switzerland. Famously Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, who was the first person to reach the South Pole in 1911 and the North Pole in 1926, wore Zenith watches on his expeditions. In 1999, Zenith was purchased by LVMH  (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton), joining brands like TAG and Hublot. Zenith is one of the only Swiss manufacturers to produce their in-house movements still. Their most recognised movement is the El Primero. It was released in 1969, went into production in 1975, and was re-issued in 1986.
