Points of Mention
This watch is sold with its original Tudor box and Tudor/Rolex Paperwork (*We cannot confirm 100% this paperwork is for this watch as the numbers do not match, however, the numbers do not match any Tudor or Rolex reference either, we believe this could have been an internal retailer code instead, but as stated, we cannot confirm). The watch comes paired with a well-suited grey suede strap. The watch is from Circa. 1965 and is sold in worn, vintage condition, but overall fair condition as you can see. The watch is all original, the hands have been relumed at some point in its past. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.
The Watch
Just after the second world war, Hans Wilsdorf Founder of Rolex knew that the time had come to expand and give the Tudor brand a proper identity of its own. Thus, on 6 March 1946, he created the “Montres TUDOR S.A.” company, specialising in models for both men and women. Rolex guaranteed the technical, aesthetic and functional characteristics, along with the distribution and after-sales service.
The Tudor rose within a shield was meant to represent an invincible union of strength. Its robustness, elegant lines and beauty of the design. In 1947 Tudor introduced the Oyster, their first waterproof watch, building on the success of the Rolex Oyster of the same period. In 1952, 26 Tudor Oyster Prince watches were included in the British scientific expedition to Greenland organized by the Royal Navy and sponsored by The Queen. This showed the world how robust Tudor Oyster watches were.
Our Tudor Oyster Royal has a 32mm round stainless steel Oyster case with tapered lugs. A lug to lug length of 39mm and a thickness of 10mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side, a signed screwed-down crown. The slim polished bezel holds a domed crystal above a white dial. An outer minute track with gilt dart hour markers and gilt applied Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9. Gilt lance hands with reapplied luminescence and a fine tapered sweeping centre seconds hand complete the dial. Text on the dial is precisely printed. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside a Manually Wound Tudor Cal. 1156, 17 jewels, 18,000 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on a 17mm strap. A nice inclusion is the Tudor red box with Tudor Rolex on the inside and Rolex guarantee papers dating it to 24/12/1965, possibly a late Christmas present to a loved one, and what a fine present this would have made to someone special.
Personal Note
A stunning watch from a brand that feels as if it is increasing in popularity by the day and great vintage examples are getting tougher to find, that is why when this one presented itself to me I had to have it! The box alone is super cool and whilst we cannot guarantee the paperwork is for this watch, again it is a super cool thing to have, and alone those two things are probably worth a fair few £! Either way, it is a nice honest example is in great condition, and wears super well despite the 32mm size.
