Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original Seiko box or paperwork. The watch comes paired with a nicely fitted and well-suited brown leather strap. The watch is from Circa. 1965 and is sold in worn, vintage condition, but overall fair condition as you can see with some wear to the gold-plating of the case. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty

The Watch

Seikos history began in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori established the K. Hattori retail and repair store. In 1892 Seikosha was established making wall clocks. 1895 saw the production of their first pocket watch. 1913 saw the launch of their first wristwatch, the Laurel. In 1924 the first Seiko was manufactured. Daini Seikosha (now Seiko Instruments Inc.) established in 1937. Seiko listed on the Tokyo stock exchange in 1949. The Suwa factory became independent and formed Suwa Seikosha Co. Ltd. (now Seiko Epson Corporation in 1959).

Our Seiko Goldfeather J14060 had a production run from 1960 until 1966. Its gold-filled 35mm round case has long tapered lugs. A lug to lug length of 43.5mm and a thickness of just 8mm, thanks to the Cal 60M, which is still Seikos thinnest three-handed manually wound movement. A thin bezel holds a domed crystal above a sunburst dial.  Fine Gold plated bevel-edged baton indices mark the hours. Slender gold plated baton hands and a tapered center seconds hand complete this attractive dress watch. Text is in a handwriting style for that sophisticated appeal. On the reverse, a plain gold-filled case back inside a Manually Wound Seikosha Cal 60M, 25 jewels, 18,000 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on an 18mm leather strap.

Personal Note

A watch I had never seen before I got this on my desk and what a lovely watch it is! It feels more like something Longines would have made in that period, beautifully finished, elegantly thin, and very simplistic! The perfect dress watch and made to a higher standard than was typical of Seiko at this time.
