Description

Here we have a 1964 Certina Automatic 'Town and Country' Square 30mm (Ref. 5801 115), an incredibly rare and distinctively geometric vintage Swiss dress watch that perfectly mirrors the bold, architectural style shift of the mid-1960s. The beautifully sculpted 30mm 316L stainless steel case delivers a commanding wrist presence that wears significantly larger than its dimensions suggest, thanks to the inherent visual mass of its square architecture. With a compact 40mm lug-to-lug length and a sleek 10mm case thickness, its ergonomic layout and integrated lines deliver a balanced, flat, sophisticated fit under any formal shirt cuff. The case geometry blends crisp brushed and polished facets, anchored by thick, stepped lugs that flow seamlessly into the strap. A signed crown sits neatly at 3 o'clock, maintaining the watch's clean, geometric boundary. A crystal sits above a deeply captivating, minimalist dial. The layout provides a high-contrast aesthetic, utilising applied steel block markers and matching baton hands that track elegantly across the canvas. Ditching an overly complicated format in favour of pure horizontal symmetry, a clean date window sits neatly at the 3 o'clock mark. On the reverse side, a solid screw-down case back protects the premium mechanical engine beating inside. Beneath the dial lies the legendary, in-house Automatic Certina Cal. 25-651 movement, a true high-grade masterpiece revered by vintage watch purists as one of the finest robust automatics of the 1960s. Operating at 19,800 vibrations per hour, this self-winding mechanism uses 28 jewels and a highly efficient bi-directional winding system to deliver exceptional daily reliability and a semi-quickset date function. This highly exclusive vintage reference comes with a versatile 20mm Longines signed leather strap finished with a Longines steel buckle.

About Certina

Certina was founded in 1888 by Adolf and Alfred Kurth in Grenchen, Switzerland. Here, they made movements and supplies for the watch industry. Shortly afterwards, they started making their own watches and grew their workforce from 3 to 250 in 1938, when they celebrated their 50th Anniversary. By 1955, they had 500 employees and produced 1000 watches a day. This expansion continued in 1971 when they were producing 600,000 watches every year with a workforce of 900. In 1983, Certina became a member of the Swatch Group, and they continue to this day.
