Emerging from a pivotal golden era of production, this rare collectable represents a historic milestone for the Tokyo-based watchmaker, showcasing the robust engineering and bold colour experimentation that first put the brand on the map. The perfectly proportioned 36mm stainless steel case introduces a wonderfully balanced, compact architecture finished in a striking combination of brushed and polished surfaces. With an ultra-short, wrist-hugging lug-to-lug length of just 42.5mm and a case thickness of 13mm, its stout proportions and classic curved silhouette deliver an incredibly snug, ergonomic, flat presence on the wrist. A smooth fixed bezel caps the case profile, while a traditional push-pull crown handles time-setting alongside a solid screw-down case back. A faceted mineral crystal protects the striking, deeply captivating blue dial. The dynamic canvas provides a vibrant, high-contrast aesthetic, catching the light to shift effortlessly between deep ocean navy and electric blue tones. The layout features applied faceted block indices and polished hands, while an elegant day-date aperture sits neatly framed at the 3 o'clock position to ensure effortless daily utility. On the reverse side, the solid steel back protects the historic, mechanical heartbeat ticking inside. Beneath the dial lies the legendary, in-house Orient automatic Cal. 1946 movement. A true vintage workhorse engine revered by Japanese watch purists, this self-winding mechanical calibre runs at 19,800 vibrations per hour to deliver robust daily durability, automatic winding, and a dependable power reserve. This mid-century reference comes paired with its original, period-correct Orient 18mm stainless steel multi-link bracelet, completed by a signed fold-over clasp; it will fit up to a 7.3-inch wrist.

Personal Note

I absolutely love vintage watches with faceted crystals, and this Orient is a brilliant example of why. The way the crystal catches the light and adds so much depth to the dial is just fantastic, especially as you move your wrist and see it from different angles. And then there's that blue dial. In certain lighting it's a lovely deep navy, but get it into the sunlight and it completely transforms into this incredible, vibrant light blue. It's one of those watches that really needs to be seen in person to appreciate just how good it looks. Add in the wonderfully wearable 36mm case and original bracelet, and you've got a seriously charming little vintage Orient. I would not hesitate to add this vintage gem to your collection today!
