Nivada, a Swiss watch company that was founded in the town of Grenchen, Switzerland in 1879. They saw success after World War II, producing a series of watches. Nivada was unable to sell under their own name in the United States after the threat of a name-similarity lawsuit by Movado. They decided in the US market to use "Croton"or "Nivada Grenchen" instead. The Aquadatic was introduced in the 1950s where it was advertised as “Man-of-Action styling” Certified Waterproof, Shock/dust resistant, and Antimagnetic. Sold and serviced in 85 countries by jeweler-craftsmen.
Our 1950s Nivada Aquamatic has a quality 34mm stainless steel case with lugs that curve and twist in an attractive way. Polished and brushed surfaces transition effortlessly around the case. A 42mm lug to lug length means a comfortable fit on the wrist. A concave polished bezel sits atop the case, this really draws the eyes downwards towards the dial. Its domed crystal sits above an eggshell dial that has a gentle dome to it and has developed a lovely even patina throughout. Arabic numerals with alternating kite-shaped indexes mark the hours. The minute track radiates just underneath. Syringe heat blued hands with lume infill are complemented by a sweeping center second with a red arrowhead tip. On the reverse a screw-down case back. Inside an Automatic AS 1361 N, 17 Jewels, 18,000 beats per hour. Fitted on an 18mm brown leather strap
Points of Mention
This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original Nivada box or Nivada paperwork. The watch comes paired on an aftermarket brown leather strap which suits the watch perfectly. The dial has developed an even patina throughout and is original, the hands are also original and have developed a lovely patina also. The case is in fantastic condition and has been faithfully and professionally refinished back to the way it would have been out of the factory. The movement does come with the KibbleWatches 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.
Nivada are a brand that I see just growing and growing, especially with the brand coming back and introducing many models based on their vintage watches, I wonder if they would do an exact of this with these beautiful lugs, Nivada if you're reading this, please do! The case is the star of the show on this beauty, it just helps that a stunning watch is also encased in it! If you are in the market for something a little different from the vintage world, this is that something different you need.
