Points of Mention
This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no Original Mido box or Original Mido paperwork. The watch comes paired on an aftermarket leather strap. The watch is from Circa. 1960s and is in worn condition, but overall very well kept and all original, the dial and hands are original and aged beautifully. The watch has an Unknown Service History but is running great and comes with KibbleWatches 6-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.
The Watch
Mido was founded by Mr. Georges Schaeren in Switzerland in 1918. His first watches represented car radiators in shape and were advertised as the motorists watch. One made in Platinum was given to the King of Spain in 1927. In 1934 we saw the launching of the MULTIFORT line that marked a milestone in the history of MIDO watches. It was one of the first antimagnetic watches with a self-winding movement and built-in water and shock-resistance. The Multifort was the best selling MIDO watch from the 1930s to the 1950s. In 1954 Mido introduced the Powerwind Automatic which reduced the winding components from 17 to 7 a true feat of engineering. This 1960s Multifort Powerwind continues the story with a 34mm stainless steel case with curved lugs making for a comfortable fit on the wrist. A slim bezel encircles the domed acrylic crystal. Its silver dial has a sunburst finish which catches the light perfectly. Outer minute track complete with Tritium lume pips. Applied silver batons with chamfered edges mark the hours, slim baton hands with tritium infill along with a center seconds hand create an uncluttered elegant dial. On the reverse a screw-down case back, inside an Automatic AS Powerwind. Fitted on a black leather strap.
Personal Note
I have now had a fair few of these Mido Powerwinds, they have all been quite different from one another but all beautifully designed and very simple, yet elegant on the wrist. These are great options for those who can't quite get the budget up to an Omega but want a true vintage Swiss-made quality watch that looks fantastic.
