The Watch
Here, we have a 1960s Lanco Lanco-Fon Alarm 1241 with a 36.5mm Fancy Chrome Case with an attractive scalloped lug that curves over your wrist, the continuous scalloped edge leads to a lug-to-lug length of 45.5mm and a case thickness of 12mm, ensuring a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side is a coin-edged push/pull crown. A smooth bezel holds a domed crystal above a dial. An outer quarter of the hour scale surrounds a minute track precisely executed; Arabic and triangle indices mark the hours, slender sword hands are complemented by a red tapered second hand and a blue arrow hand indicating the alarm; at 12 o’clock, we have the alarm on/off indicator hole, applied Lanco-Fon and 17 Jewels printed underneath, at 6 o’clock “Shock Resistant.” On the reverse, a solid case back with Lanco-Fon engraved in the centre, inside a manually wound Lanco Cal. 1241, 17 jewels, beating at a leisurely 18,000 beats per hour. Winding the crown clockwise powers the alarm, and winding anticlockwise powers the watch mainspring; in the first position, turning the crown anticlockwise sets the alarm, and pulling the crown into its second position, you can set the hands. The watch comes paired with an 18mm well-suited aftermarket strap and pin buckle.
Personal Note
If you know me, you know that I love quirky, affordable vintage like this Lanco-Fon Alarm! It is watches like this that make collecting so fun for me personally, you can get a ton of watch in terms of complication and style for not a lot of money. I wouldn't hesitate to add this little gem to your collection if you are after something a little left-field, plus the alarm is such a great party trick!
