Description

Here, we have a super rare 1960s Girard Perregaux Gyromatic Deep Diver 8867 V. An estimated 1,400 watches were produced across two references, the V and the W, but only an estimated 400 8867 V were made in total making it incredibly rare. Thanks to the flat-ended tapered lugs, the 39mm stainless steel case sits comfortably on your wrist, chamfer edges lead to a lug-to-lug length of 48mm and a case thickness of 11mm, and on the right side is a coin-edged signed crown. The rotating coin-edged steel bezel has its original Bakelite 60-minute dive bezel insert holding a domed crystal above the black dial. An outer minute track has Tritium pips at the hour surrounding framed 12, 6 and 9 numerals in a futuristic font and baton indexes in between marking the hours; at 3 o’clock, a recessed date window, steel baton hands filled with Tritium are complemented by a tapered second hand, at noon we have the Girard Perregaux motif and “Gyromatic” printed underneath, “Deep Diver” at 6 o’clock completes this vintage dive watch. On the reverse, a screw-down case back, inside an automatic Girard Perregaux Gyromatic, 17 jewel movement. The watch comes paired with a well-suited 19mm vintage-style leather strap and pin buckle.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and, therefore, comes with no original Girard-Perregaux box or paperwork. It is paired with a 19mm vintage-style leather strap and pin buckle. The watch is from Circa. late 1960s and is sold in vintage condition, but overall, it is in very fair condition for its age, as you can see. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

Not only is this an incredibly rare model and reference, but it is all original down to the Bakelite bezel and has been preserved beautifully, it wears incredibly well at 39mm and is ridiculously cheap considering everything we have just mentioned... With 1,400 estimated to have been made across a V & W reference, this being an 8867 V it is estimated that only 400 total were made in this reference in total, which is stupendously rare. I would not sleep on this one, if you are interested add it to your collection whilst you can!

About Girard Perregaux

The brand's origins date back to 1791 in Geneva, Switzerland, where Jean-François Bautte, a fine pocket watchmaker and goldsmith, built workshops and created his first watches. It wasn’t until 1906 that the two companies became acquainted when Constant Girard-Gallet bought the Bautte company from Jacques Bautte, and the modern Girard-Perregaux was formed.
