Here we have a rare 1960 Ernest Borel 'Monaco' Automatic featuring an incredible 36mm Asymmetric Brevet Compressor gold-plated case. Its beautifully sculpted flanks lead to a comfortable lug-to-lug length of 40mm and a case thickness of 10mm. On the right side, a signed recessed coin-edged crown. The smooth bezel holds a domed crystal above an engine-turned gold-toned dial. An outer minute track with Tritium pips surrounds the facet indexes that mark the hours. Slender hands filled with Tritium are complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand. At noon, we have the Ernest Borel motif Automatic printed underneath, and at 6 o’clock, Monaco completes this rare, sophisticated dress watch. About Ernest Borel

Ernest Borel is a Swiss watch brand founded in 1856 in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, by Jules Borel and Paul Courvoisier. The brand quickly built a reputation for producing accurate chronometer timepieces and winning awards for its craftsmanship. Jules Borel officially began making watches in 1859. After Courvoisier left the company, Jules’ son, Ernest Borel, joined, and the business was renamed Ernest Borel & Cie. In 1903, the brand began selling its watches in China and established a strong presence there. Ernest Borel became well-known for its unique kaleidoscope watches, which featured colourful rotating discs instead of traditional hands to tell time. However, in the mid-1970s, the rise of quartz watches posed challenges for many Swiss watchmakers, and the Borel family decided to sell the company in 1975. It eventually became part of the Synchron Group and was acquired by Aubry Frères in 1981. Later, in 1997, a group of Chinese investors bought it. In 2014, Ernest Borel Holdings Limited was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Today, the brand continues to operate from Le Noirmont, Switzerland.
