The Watch

Here we have a 1958 Tissot T-12 Visodate Automatic on Sprung Tissot Bracelet with a 35mm stainless steel case that curves over your wrist with tapered lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 43mm and a case thickness of 12mm ensure a comfortable fit. On the right side is a large signed crown. The smooth bezel holds a domed crystal above a cream dial, pips surrounding applied bullet-shaped indexes mark the hours, and at 3 o’clock a framed date window and elegant dauphine hands are complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand. At 12 o’clock we have the Tissot motif with “T.12” underneath and at 6 o’clock “Automatic Visodate” completes this vintage timepiece. On the reverse a screw-down case back with the Tissot ship engraved into it, inside an automatic Tissot Cal. 28.5R-621, 17 jewels, beating at 19,800 beats per hour, this movement was in production from 1952 until 1962. The watch comes paired with its original 19mm Tissot Sprung stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp.

Personal Note

Another gem from the personal collection and one I'll be sad to see go, but as always, I cannot keep them all, as much as I try my best to! This 1958 Tissot T-12 Visodate is as good as it gets, all original down to the sprung Tissot signed bracelet, the dial is aged to perfection and the patina is beautiful! Someone snap this up before I change my mind and keep it!

The Brand

The Swiss luxury watch company Tissot from Le Locle, Switzerland, was established in 1853 by Charles Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile. Under Charles-Emile’s direction, they manufactured pocket watches with parts from Russia and the United States. In 1915, the company began producing wristwatches. In 1930 Tissot created the world's first Non-Magnetic wristwatch. Between 1920 and 1977, Tissot produced its own movements. In 1930 to survive the 1929 crash and economic crisis they entered into an agreement with Omega to form the SSIH Group which 53 years later became the Swatch Group. In 1954 the Visodate was created.
