The Watch

Longines was founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz and is considered to be the oldest registered watch brand. Its winged hourglass logo is the oldest registered trademark for a watch brand. Lindbergh, the aviator, and adventurer, worked with Longines to create the Hour Angle watch in 1927. They were until 2018 the official timekeeper for the French Open. Longines has been part of the Swatch Group since 1983.

The Longines Conquest Calendar was first introduced in 1956, two years after the no-date conquest in 1954. Here we have a stunning 1958 Longines Automatic Conquest Calendar with a 35mm Gold capped case. Thick tapered lugs with a lug to lug length of 42mm and a thickness of 12.5mm ensures the watch is a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side is a large signed crown. The thin bezel holds a domed crystal above a silver dial. Attractive applied gilt double faceted indexes mark the hours. An inner minute track has lume pips on the hour. At 3 o’clock, a framed date window. Elegant gilt dauphine hands are complemented by a delicate tapered second hand. At 12 o’clock, text and the applied Longine motif. At 6 o’clock, “Conquest Calendar.” On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the medallion embossed Conquest fish and green enamel in the center. Inside an Automatic Longines Cal. 19ASD, 19 jewels, 18,000 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on an 18mm leather strap.

Personal Note

Its watches like this that I wish could tell their story, originally manufactured and sent to the Longines agent in Nigeria, then likely went around the world to end up here for sale in 2021 in the UK! Thankfully the watch is more than a potentially interesting unknown story, the watch is beautiful and perfect on the wrist! I believe this model still has so much room to grow as people wake up and appreciate this model more, so much value for your money!
