The Watch

Here we have a 1958 Tissot T-12 Visodate Automatic with a 35.5mm stainless steel case that curves over your wrist with tapered drilled lugs, a subtle curve along the flanks leads to a lug-to-lug length of 43mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm ensuring a comfortable fit. On the right side is a large signed crown which is showing signs of age. The smooth bezel holds a domed crystal above a cream dial, surrounding applied gold-toned bullet-shaped indexes that mark the hours. At 3 o’clock, a framed date window and elegant gold-toned dauphine hands are complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand. At 12 o’clock, we have the Tissot motif with “T.12” underneath, and at 6 o’clock “, Automatic Visodate” completes this vintage timepiece. On the reverse, there is a screw-down case back inside an automatic Tissot Cal. 28.5R-621, 17 jewels, beating at 19,800 beats per hour; this movement was in production from 1952 until 1962. The watch comes paired with a 19mm quick-release leather strap and pin buckle.

Personal Note

I have been incredibly fortunate to have sold a handful of Tissot T-12 Automatic Visodates over the years, but I have not had this reference 67012-1 in this lovely configuration of a soft eggshell-tone dial with contrasting gold indices and hands, it works beautifully and looks incredible on the wrist at 35.5mm with a chunky design. These models are just as good as their Omega Seamaster counterparts from the same era, but these can be picked up for a fraction of the case and offer something slightly different. I would not hesitate to add this watch to your collection today!

The Brand

The Swiss luxury watch company Tissot from Le Locle, Switzerland, was established in 1853 by Charles Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile. Under Charles-Emile’s direction, they manufactured pocket watches with parts from Russia and the United States. In 1915, the company began producing wristwatches. In 1930, Tissot created the world's first Non-Magnetic wristwatch. Between 1920 and 1977, Tissot produced its own movements. In 1930, to survive the 1929 crash and economic crisis, they entered into an agreement with Omega to form the SSIH Group, which 53 years later became the Swatch Group. In 1954, the Visodate was created.
