The Watch

The Nacar brand was founded by two Turkish Armenian Nacaroglu brothers Ohannes and Kevork. In 1921 they established Zila Watch company and created the Nacar brand (from their surname Nacaroglu) producing their first watch in 1921. Ohannes residing in Bienne Switzerland and Kevork in Istanbul, they selected their target markets to be Turkey, Lebanon, and Syria. The Nacar watch entered Turkey in 1929. Today they are owned by Konyali Saatcilik with quartz production in the Far East and mechanical production in Switzerland.

This 1950s Nacar Chronograph has a 35mm stainless steel case with tapering lugs. A 43mm lug to lug length ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side, we have the square chronograph pushers with a crown in the center. A domed crystal sits above a rich salmon two-tone dial. An outer Tachymeter for speed and Telemetre scale for distance both printed with crisp numerals. The 60 seconds track sits just inside. Around a lighter ring, elegant printed numeral indexes mark the hours. At 3 o’clock a 30-minute register and 9 o’clock the continuous 60 seconds. Long pencil hands are complemented by a red-tipped chronograph seconds hand. Its two-register dial is perfectly balanced. On the reverse a snap-on case back. Inside a Manually Wound Venus 150 Column-Wheel Chronograph 17 Jewels 18000 Beats per hour. The Cal. 150 was introduced around 1938, updated in 1949, and retired around 1960. Fitted on an 18mm leather strap.

Personal Note

The moment I saw the dial I fell in love with the watch, then realising it was all steel I just could not say no. The numbers are stunning, especially the number 7, take a look at that macro and you'll just have to purchase it for that alone!
