Description

Here we have a beautiful 1950s Ebel Automatic Date Dress Watch featuring a rare-for-the-time 36mm 18ct Pink Gold case that gently curves over your wrist, with fine tapered lugs. Its sculpted curved flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 41.5mm and a case thickness of 11mm, ensuring a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side, a coin-edged crown. The smooth bezel holds a domed crystal above a striking secor dial. Applied pink gold Arabic numerals 12, 3, 6, and 9, and decorative dagger indices mark the hours around an inner minute track. At 3 o’clock, a framed date window. Elegant pink-gold Dauphine hands are complemented by a tapered, sweeping second hand. The hands and indices shimmer in the light as you rotate our wrist. At noon, we have the Ebel Fab, Suisse motif, and at 6 o’clock, the Automatic completes this sophisticated, perfectly executed dress watch. On the reverse, a screw-down solid 18ct pink gold case back, inside an automatic AS Cal. 1396, 17 jewels, beating at a leisurely 18,000 beats per hour. It comes paired with a well-suited 19mm leather strap and pin buckle.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold as ‘Watch Only’, therefore comes without its Ebel box or paperwork. It comes paired with a well-suited 19mm leather strap and pin buckle. The watch is from Circa. 1950s and is sold in fantastic, worn, vintage condition, with an incredible dial, and, to be expected, showing some patina, as you can see from the photographs. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

With gold prices constantly soaring, the intrinsic value in a vintage gold watch is getting more and more appealing to a lot of collectors and rightfully so. This wonderful 1950s Ebel Automatic Date is a great example, cased in a wonderful 36mm 18ct Pink Gold heavy screw back case. This is quite a rare watch for the time and would scrap for a significant amount, but why would we do that? Instead, we have had it fully serviced, and now it is ready to be worn and enjoyed for another 70+ years, and hopefully continue to avoid a scrap pile. Snap up this wonderful vintage watch today and add it to your collection!

About Ebel

Eugene Blum and Alice Levy, husband and wife, joined their initials together (Eugene Blum Et Levy) to form the brand name Ebel in 1911. Based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the company was taken over by their son, Charles, in 1932, after which he began to concentrate the business, branching out overseas before Blum's grandson, Pierre Alain, took over. It was at this point, in 1932, that Ebel began creating wristwatches for Cartier. Later, Ebel became part of the LVMH Group and, by the end of 2003, the Movado Group.
