An elegant 1950s Aidix Chronographe Suisse, powered by the highly regarded Landeron 48 chronograph movement and housed in a beautifully proportioned 37.5mm 18ct gold case. Representing the golden age of Swiss chronograph production, it combines timeless mid-century styling with genuine mechanical pedigree. The twin-register dial features both tachymeter and telemeter scales, gold Arabic numerals, and graceful leaf hands, creating a layout that is as functional as it is visually appealing. Beneath the dial beats the manually wound Landeron 48, one of the most respected cam-operated chronograph calibres of its era, prized for its reliability and smooth operation. With its warm gold case, classic proportions, and vintage chronograph charm, this is a wonderful example of post-war Swiss watchmaking at its most refined.

Description

Here, we have a rare 1950s Aidix Chronographe Suisse 37.5mm 18ct Gold Landeron 48 with a curvaceous round case that sits perfectly on your wrist, thanks to its elegant tapered lugs. Its refined flanks lead to a 45mm lug-to-lug length and a case thickness of 12mm, ensuring a comfortable fit. On the right side, a crown sits between two rectangular chronograph pushers. The smooth, slim bezel holds a crystal above an attractive dial featuring a twin-register layout. The outer track features a tachymeter scale, red Telemeter scale, while a 30-minute recording sub-dial sits at 3 o'clock and a constant seconds sub-dial rests at 9 o'clock. Gold-painted Arabic numerals mark the hours. Elegant gold leaf hands and fine leaf chronograph hands sit majestically in the centre. At 12 o’clock, we have the Aidix motif. On the reverse, a snap-off case back, hallmarked on the inside, a manually wound Landeron Cal. 48 movement, and a Swiss 17-jewel cam-lever chronograph beating at a leisurely 18,000 beats per hour are highly regarded by collectors and the industry for their reliability and accuracy. The watch comes paired with a 20mm strap.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold as ‘Watch Only’; therefore, it comes without its original Aidix box or paperwork. It comes paired with a 20mm leather strap and a pin buckle. The watch is from Circa. 1950s, and is in worn vintage condition, but overall a lovely, honest example, with a beautifully aged patina dial, and a sharp case, serviced in September 2024. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

It's becoming increasingly difficult to find vintage chronographs from this era that haven't been heavily restored or overly worn, which is why this example stands out so much. It is an incredibly clean and honest watch, with all the charm you'd hope for from a 1950s chronograph while retaining the originality that collectors are always searching for. The proportions are fantastic, the dial layout is beautifully balanced, and the Landeron 48 remains one of the great workhorse chronograph movements of the period. What really surprises me, though, is the value for money. You're getting an 18ct gold mechanical chronograph from the golden era of Swiss watchmaking, powered by a respected vintage chronograph calibre, for a fraction of what similar pieces from the larger names now command. In today's market, that feels increasingly difficult to ignore. I would not hesitate to snap this up and add it to your collection today!
