Elgin was founded in 1864 in Elgin, Illinois, USA. In 1874, they changed their name to the "Elgin National Watch Company" until the late 1960s when they stopped producing watches and changed their name to the "Elgin National Industries". The Elgin National Watch Company went out of business in 1967.
Here we have a stunning 14 ct White Gold Filled Elgin. The serial number 31361485 from the movement dates to 1926. It’s 27mm tonneau case is exquisitely engraved around the sides and bezel with an intricate pattern. Stubby tapered lugs provide a comfortable fit on the wrist. On the right side an original floral engraved crown. The engraved bezel snaps off to gain access to the dial. A slightly domed crystal sits above the star of the show an white dial with an outer minute track. Art-Deco numerals have radium infill. At 6 o’clock a sub-seconds register. You would be hard-pressed to find a finer example. Thermally blued cathedral hands with lume infill add a pop of colour to the interesting dial, as you rotate your wrist. On the reverse, a plain snap-on case back. The movement is a Manually Wound Elgin Signed Movement. The watch comes fitted on a 16mm leather strap.
Points of Mention
This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original box or paperwork. The watch comes paired with a well-fitted blue leather strap. The watch is from Circa. 1926 via the serial number and is sold in worn, vintage condition, but overall very fair condition as you can see. The watch features a well refinished dial, the crystal which does, unfortunately, feature a small crack, we have decided to leave this as it is the original and we don't anticipate the new owner doing any strenuous tasks with this watch. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof warranty.
A truly stunning example and one I am struggling to let go of, but I really cannot keep them all, no matter how hard I try to! The case on this is just beautiful, the finishing and condition are truly breathtaking. The dial is perfect too, especially with the lume all even and the rich colour it is!
