Piaget was founded in 1874 in the small Swiss village of La Côte-aux-Fées. Georges-Édouard Piaget had a passion for watches from a young age. He created movements from his workshop. It wasn’t until his son Timothée Piaget took over that the business saw a huge expansion building a new manufacturing facility. In 1943 Piaget became a registered trademark. Creating ultra-thin watches with their 9P Calibre which was an incredible 2mm thick, a world record that they still hold. Today Piaget is a subsidiary of the Swiss Richemont group. This group includes Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, IWC Schaffhausen, Panerai, Vacheron Constantin, Montblanc, Dunhill, and Chloé.
Here we have an elegant 1990s Piaget Altiplano 9025 in 18ct Yellow Gold. The Altiplano was first created in 1957, named after the plateau in the Cordillera Andes in Spain. Its understated simplicity is a Piaget signature. The 30mm case has slim curved lugs with a lug to lug length of 33mm and a thickness of just 4.5mm ensuring a very comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side, a black cabochon set crown. A slim bezel holds a flat crystal above a sunburst gold dial. Thin black baton indexes mark the hours. Elegant thin gilt pencil hands complete this minimalist dial. Text at 12 is printed precisely. On the reverse, a snap-on case back. Inside a Manually Wound Piaget Cal. 9P2, 18 jewels, 19,800 beats per hour. This incredibly thin movement at 2mm was launched in 1957 and still holds the world record for the thinnest mechanical movement. The watch comes fitted on a 16mm leather strap with a Piaget 18ct gold buckle and also comes with its Piaget presentation box.
Whilst this may be too small for some men, for those who wear smaller watches this is truly an absolute steal of a watch and with its movement and quality, nothing really comes close! Plus, for you women out there, this is just perfect! Piaget is definitely another sleeper brand and as watches become more and more popular and these start to fall into the "vintage" category, more and more people will wish they had picked them up, mark my words...
