NOMADIC was founded by Peter McAuley and started in 2021 based in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim, Ireland, where he became an engineer after studying at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution. Initially working for Hitachi Rail and Caterpillar, he had always had a fascination with mechanical watches which he inherited from an uncle, he saw an opportunity to create a watch of his own which encompasses the engineering ethos found in the Belfast shipyards. The brand is named after the passenger ferry SS Nomadic, the last remaining White Star line ship in the world, residing in Belfast's Hamilton Dock at the famous Irish shipyard,  Harland and Wolff with its iconic yellow gantry cranes. This shipyard famously built RMS Titanic their 401st ship built.
