Jürgen Jürgensen was founded in 1740 in Denmark, at this time Jürgen Jürgensen went into partnership with Isaac Larpent, naming the company "Larpent & Jürgensen". In 1814 after Jürgen died his son took over the business and renamed the company Jules Jürgensen. Jules Jürgensen manufactured most of its watches in Switzerland. In 1936 the company was sold to a US-based company, but they still manufactured their watches in Switzerland until 1957. In 1974, Mort Clayman, a watch agent in the U.S. bought the company. Mort Clayman died in January 2010, and his family not wanting to continue with the business closed the company. In 2011, Dr Helmut Crott, the founder of Urban Jürgensen & Sønner bought the rights from the Clayman family. He renamed the company Urban Jurgensen.
