The Watch
Here we have the now discontinued fun unworn 2024 Studio Underd0g Series 1 Ham & Pineapple Pizza Watch, which began as an April Fools joke of Studio Underd0g founder Richard Benc and Time+Tide founder Andrew McUtchen offering a pizza watch when everyone realised it was just a bit of fun, everyone began to request the watch to be made, under such pressure, they buckled and have created two pizza chronograph watches a Hawaiian and Pepperoni. The limited numbers were sold in collaboration with Fratello and personally handed over by either Richard or Andrew to raise money to fight against testicular cancer, for which they raised £13,000 for Cancer Research UK.
The 38.5mm brushed stainless steel case has elegant tapered curved lugs with a lug-to-lug length of 44.5mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. We have the signed crown and the polished chronograph pushers on the right side. The bevel-edged stepped polished smooth bezel holds a double-domed sapphire crystal above the striking characteristic colourful dial. Made up of 2 layers: a satin sandblasted base layer and a coarse-textured crusty cheese centre layer that graduates from an orange in the centre to a darker orange crunchy outer edge. An outer Tachymetre is precisely printed against the pale beige-coloured layer. The dial is randomly sprinkled with delicious ham and pineapple pieces; at 3 o’clock, a large 30-minute register made up of varied hues of brown and cream-coloured segments and a beige-tipped hand; at 9 o’clock, the small second register in orange with a concentric circular pattern. The slender black-outlined sword hands are filled with Super-LumiNova, complemented by a beige-tipped chronograph hand. Text is precisely applied with the bold Studio Underd0g motif sitting proudly off-centre. The combination of colour and textures makes this Bi-Compax a pleasure to wear. On the reverse is a screw-down exhibition sapphire crystal case back, inside a manually wound Seagull ST-1901 is a true workhorse of a movement that uses the technical drawings of the Swiss Venus calibre 175 but is made in China. Its simplicity in decoration adds interest both front and back to this watch. The watch comes fitted on its original 20mm Strap Tailor quick-release leather strap and signed pin buckle and comes with its Studio Underd0g pizza presentation box, travel pouch and papers.

This began as an April Fools joke of Studio Underd0g founder Richard Benc and Time+Tide founder Andrew McUtchen offering a pizza watch when everyone realised it was just a bit of fun, everyone began to request the watch to be made, and as the owner of one, I'm glad they did. The Brand
Richard Benc, the founder of Studio Underd0g studied product design at the University of Nottingham. He then began working in the watch industry for over five years where he worked on many designs. The concept of the brand, Studio Underd0g, was founded in March 2020 whilst the UK was still under lockdown due to COVID-19, a funky design and colour combination was the way to go. The brand was officially launched in March 2021. The brand name came about as he saw himself as a small fish in a large sea with much bigger ideas and aspirations. He replaced the small “o” in Underdog with a “0”, which is now part of their brand identity. Inspired, he created a fun and playful watch, using colour, textures and design cues to create a design that stands out from the crowd. Releasing three series of watches as well as some special additions, each with its own unique design. 01Series is a selection of two pusher chronographs with quirky colourful dials, 02Series is a selection of colourful lumed dial, field style watches and 03Series is monopusher chronographs. The special additions include collaborations with brands like Moser & Cie and Fears, partnerships with perpètuel gallery dubai and Andrew McUtchen aswell and multiple models and piece uniques sold with proceeds going to multiple charity organistions. These watches are assembled in the UK, and working together with British companies, The Strap Tailor and Horologium, Studio Underd0gs are assembled in the UK.
