The Watch
Here, we have a 2024 Benjamin James Scarifour Orange Sunrise Mechanical, whose name comes from Benjamin's childhood home, where five generations of his family have lived. Its distinctive 31mm stainless steel rectangular case with sculpted corners effortlessly flows over your wrist thanks to the integrated bracelet. Inspired by the rectangular watch of the 1960s and 70s, it launched on Kickstarter. A polished bevel edge leads to a lug-to-lug length of 40mm, and a case thickness of just 8.5mm ensures a comfortable fit. Polished and brushed surfaces transition with crisp lines. On the right side is a heptagon-signed crown. A stepped polished bezel has eight indents and holds a sapphire crystal AR coated above a stunning Orange Sunrise fumé Chevron ‘Heraldry Dial’, creating depth and interest. The minute chapter ring has pips and surrounds applied faceted baton indexes and Roman numeral at 12 o’clock mark the hours, Alpha style hands are filled with BGW9 Super-LumiNova, the Benjamin James motif and Scarifour complete this sporty, versatile timepiece. On the reverse, a hex screwed-down exhibition case back, inside a manually wound Sellita Cal. SW210-1 b, 19 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. It is paired with a polished and brushed stainless steel integrated bracelet secured by a signed push-button butterfly clasp. All links are provided, and it comes with a Benjamin James presentation box, travel pouch, and paperwork.
Personal Note
Benjamin James has proven that unique and bold designs can still be made from an entirely new brand, this Scarifour is the perfect example of that as it would have likely made much more sense for him to release another simple round 'GADA' watch, but instead he went with a design that spoke to him and in turn spoke to collectors. I am excited to see what comes from the brand in the future, in the meantime here is a great opportunity to own one of the first models he made from the initial Kickstarter campaign!
The Brand
Benjamin J. Adams dedicated eight years to leading the watch division at Geckota / WatchGecko, where he honed his skills and passion for watch design. During this time, he oversaw various projects and played a pivotal role in creating the FORSA sub-brand, a line showcasing his unique perspective on timepieces. His design philosophy is heavily influenced by the captivating aesthetics of 1970s rectangular watches, a fascination that began with his grandfather's diverse collection of vintage timepieces. In 2023, Adams took a bold step by founding his own company, Benjamin James Watches, which is intricately designed and crafted in England. The brand is deeply rooted in the classic design elements of the 1970s, marrying retro charm with modern functionality. Each watch is not only a nod to the past but also incorporates high-quality Swiss movements, ensuring precision and reliability. Through his creations, Adams aims to bring a piece of the past into the present, appealing to watch enthusiasts who appreciate both vintage style and contemporary craftsmanship.
