The Watch
Here we have a 2023 Dietrich Missions Maritimes SD2 Azure Blue with its 38.5mm stainless steel case. The polished and brushed case gently curves towards the tapered drilled short lugs. The lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a signed screw-down crown. The unidirectional bezel has a blue aluminium dive insert with painted markings coated in C1 Super-LumiNova. The domed sapphire crystal sits above a striking Azure blue crosshair sandwich dial with recessed disc and baton indexes filled with C1 Super-LumiNova and outlined in white for excellent legibility. The stylised hands are taken from the Organic Time dials and are coated in the same C1 Super-LumiNova. Text remains simple with a DIETRICH motif and “Missions Maritimes”. On the reverse, a screw-down case back, inside an automatic Sellita SW200, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. It comes paired with its quick-release 20mm NBR blue rubber strap with a signed pin buckle, plus a 20mm NATO strap in the box. The watch comes with its DIETRICH presentation box, pouch, stand and papers
Personal Note
I continue to be a big fan of Dietrich, their designs are a breath of fresh air in today's watch world where designs often feel borrowed, which is understandable as collectors typically want a certain design and feel without realising it, and it is increasingly becoming harder and harder to come up with something truly 'new'. This Dietrich SD2 looks and feels incredible on the wrist and at its price point, it is a no-brainer. I would not hesitate to add this watch to your collection today!
The Brand
Emmanuel Dietrich established DEITRICH in 2010. Based in Zurich, Switzerland. In 2012, they released their first watch, the GTE Geneva, at Baselworld. Development quickly moved on to creating Organic Time in 2014. While on holiday in Corsica, he conceived the idea for the Perception featuring the first-ever “relative seconds display”. As a homage to Gerald Genta, he created the Time Companion in 2017. It was decided in 2018 to discontinue the Organic Time collection, evolving his design into the production of the DD-1 in 2019. Finally, in 2021, he introduced the Skin Diver collection.
