The Watch

Here we have a 2022 Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver Blue Dial R32144202 with a curvaceous 43mm monobloc case completely made of matte black plasma high-tech ceramic, Rado called Ceramos, each case is transformed from a powder through a series of processes in a plasma reactor where the powder is heated to an incredible 20,000 °C resulting in this scratch resistant and very light case. Made by ComaDur who are leading specialists in ceramic production and are part of the Swatch Group. A lug-to-lug length of 49mm and a case thickness of 14mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence, on the right side is a signed polished hardened stainless steel screw-down crown. The watch is ISO 6425 certified meeting their specified requirements. The polished rotating hardened stainless steel bezel has deep knurling for extra grip and a polished High-Tech Ceramic 60-minute insert with laser engraved metallic numerals and markers holding a domed box-style sapphire crystal AR coated on both sides for excellent visibility. The polished blue lacquer dial has a minute chapter ring surrounding the applied baton and triangular indexes coated in SuperLuminova marking the hours, at 3 o’clock a recessed date window with red numerals on a white background, the Rhodium-coloured hands consist of a sword and arrow hand filled with SuperLuminova and complemented by an arrow pointed sweeping second hand, at 12 o’clock we have the rotating Rado anchor and at 6 o’clock “Captain Cook 300m/1000ft” completing this incredibly durable dive watch. On the reverse, a screw-down case with the Rado seahorse motif embossed in the centre, inside an automatic Rado Cal. 03.763.735 based on the ETA Cal.C07.611 with an upgraded Nivachron hairspring. The watch comes paired with its High-Tech Ceramic matte outer links, polished centre link bracelet and a signed Titanium three-fold clasp with a ceramic opener, and this watch is sold with its original Rado presentation box, swing tag and Paperwork.

Personal Note

This Rado Captain Cook in High-Tech Ceramic with a blue dial feels like the perfect blend of what Rado is known for in the vintage world and the modern world... The Captain Cook is an icon of vintage Rado and they have brought it into the modern world with a large size at 43mm but, most importantly, housed in Rado's incredible High-Tech Ceramic! This is something totally different and I am all for it.

The Brand

The Schlup & Co. watch factory was founded by the brothers Fritz, Ernst, and Werner in 1917. Using a spare room in their parent’s house in Lengnau, Switzerland, they quickly became one of the world's largest producers of watch movements. The first time they used the brand name Rado was in the 1950s. By the end of the decade, they had a presence in over 61 countries. Over the years they have innovated and created many distinctive designs, building a reputation for durability and reliability.
