The Watch
Here we have a 2022 Davosa Evo 1908 Automatic, model number 161.575.56, with a 36mm Rectangular case—the polished and brushed surfaces transition with crisp edges. The bevelled edge leads to a lug-to-lug length of 49mm and a case thickness of 12mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a signed crown with deep knurling for extra grip, and a domed sapphire crystal sits above a stunning black dial. An outer 60-minute chapter ring surrounds the applied baton, with inner and outer Arabic numeral indexes marking the hours. At 3 o’clock, a date window is located, and at 6 o’clock, a recessed running seconds register is positioned. Broad sword hands are infilled with SuperLumiNova, and at 12 o’clock, the DAVOSA motif is precisely applied to the stunning dial. On the reverse, a screwed-down exhibition case back with the watch's details engraved around its edge, inside an automatic Davosa Cal. DAV 3020, 31 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted with its 20mm leather strap, featuring a signed buckle, and includes a DAVOSA presentation box, swing tag, and paperwork.
Personal Note
Davosa are one of those brands you unfortunately hear very little about in the collecting world, yet every one I've had through my hands offered well above its price tag, this Evo 1908 is no exception. A beefy 36mm by 49mm curved 'Tank' case, it offers a unique wearing experience and is powered by the automatic DAV 3020. I would not hesitate to add this watch to your collection today!
The Brand
Paul Hasler founded DAVOSA Watches in 1881, situated in the Swiss Jura hills between Geneva and Basel, and they began specialising in watch assembly for many brands. Their motif is a stylised compass rose, a historical nautical symbol. In 1946, with the help of his brother David Hasler, they started to produce their own movements and watches for the American market. Success continued throughout Europe, and in 1974, they changed the company name to Hasler & Co. S.A. During the quartz crisis, they embraced the technology of producing quartz watches from 1975. As the demand for mechanical watches began to rise in 1987, they created a collection of chronographs with Valjoux 7750 and 7751 movements under the DAVOSA brand. In 1998, they presented their collection to Basel World for the first time. During the 2000s, they continued to innovate and introduced a pilot watch celebrating 100 years of the Wright brothers. In 2013, their Argonautic Dual time was attached to a special balloon which rose to 35,000 feet, returning to earth completely functioning. They moved their head office to Herford in Germany in 2020; they were celebrating 140 years of watchmaking in 2021.
