The Watch

Here, we have a 2022 Baltic Aquascaphe Classic Blue Gilt on a Beads Of Rice bracelet with a 39mm brushed stainless steel case and gently curved, tapered drilled lugs. A lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a thickness of 13mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a signed coin-edged screw-down crown. The unidirectional 120-click stainless steel bezel has a blue sapphire insert with a Gilt 60-minute scale, which gives it the look of a vintage Bakelite bezel. A double-domed sapphire crystal sits above a sunburst blue sandwich dial. A Gilt outer minute track surrounds a cutout Arabic 12, followed by discs and arrow indexes that mark the hours showing through the layer of SuperLumiNova C1. Sword's hands are complemented by a lollipop centre seconds hand, all coated in the same SuperLumiNova C1. Text is precisely printed on the dial; at 12 o’clock, we have the Baltic motif and at 6 o’clock, “Aquascaphe 200M”. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with a wavy pattern and a diver engraved on it. Inside an automatic Miyota Cal. 9039, 24 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. Introduced in 2018, it is part of the Miyota Premium range of movements. It has both hand-winding and hacking functionality. It is paired with its original, polished and brushed 20mm Baltic-signed “Beads of Rice” bracelet secured by a push-button signed Baltic deployant clasp; all links are provided. Comes with its Baltic presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

The Baltic Aquascape has become a staple to the Baltic lineup of watches, and rightfully so. This is the Aquascape Classic Blue Gilt featuring that striking blue dial, faux patina with bold indices and hands and a wonderful blue rotating bezel which gives the look of a vintage bakelite bezel. Paired on a super comfortable 'beads of rice' bracelet, this watch ticks all the boxes for under £500. I would not hesitate to add this watch to your collection today!

The Brand

Ettiene Malec, a Frenchman, founded Baltic in 2017. The name comes from his father’s birthplace in northern Poland near the Baltic Sea. His inspiration came after finding a suitcase full of his late father's watches and a notebook full of details about the watches. Soon after, he started to meet other collectors and collect himself. Then, seeing the huge interest in vintage timepieces, he completed a Kickstarter campaign with the Baltic HMS 001 and a Bi-Compax 001. Each watch is assembled in France near Besançon. Today, the brand continues to grow through its social media presence and its website to offer contemporary-designed, vintage-inspired timepieces.
