The Watch
Here we have a 2021 York & Front The Burrard Series 001 Limited Edition of the 046/300 pieces. Thanks to the drilled tapered lugs, the 38mm brushed and polished 316L stainless steel case curves over your wrist, and a bevel edge leads to a lug-to-lug length of 44mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm, ensuring a comfortable fit. A large screw-down crown with deep knurling for grip and an embossed, signed cap is on the right side. The chamfered edges and smooth polished bezel hold a box crystal AR coated sits above a crisp white dial, an outer rail minute track with small printed Arabic numerals surrounds applied vertical brushed Arabic numerals marking the hours, elegant syringe hands infilled with lume are complemented by a tapered red tipped sweeping second hand. At 12 o’clock, the York & Front motif completes this vintage-inspired versatile field watch. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the details engraved around the edge and the embossed York & Front motif in the centre, inside an automatic STP Cal. 1-11, 26 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, this Swiss Technology Production-manufactured movement has hand-winding and hacking seconds with the date wheel removed and no phantom date-setting crown position. The watch comes paired with two 20mm vintage-style leather straps secured with a signed pin buckle, and it also comes with its York & Front presentation box and papers.
Personal Note
This is the first time I have heard of York & Front and I am super impressed with the watch, especially for the price, the build quality is excellent and the finishing punches well above its price point. Pair that with the Swiss movement, screw-down crown, applied indices and the 2 straps... Yes, I would snap this one up if you are interested. Great for your own collection or as a potential gift for someone!
The Brand
York & Front Watch Co. is a new Canadian watch company co-founded by friends Henry and Eric in 2017. The two, who initially met while working at a Canadian bank, discovered a shared passion for watches. This led to the development of their own brand. Although both were watch enthusiasts, Henry's preference leaned towards the refined elegance of Seiko and Grand Seiko, whereas Eric favoured the comfortable fit of sub-40mm watches. This diversity in taste played a significant role in shaping York & Front's design philosophy. York & Front was not just a business venture; it was created with the aim of producing exceptional watches and building a community of watch enthusiasts. Their inaugural timepiece, the Burrard, is a reflection of this vision. The Burrard is a distinctive combination of dress watch and field watch aesthetics.
