The Watch

Here we have a 2021 Oris Aquis Dat Watt Limited Edition 01 761 7765 4185 with a 43.5mm stainless steel case that has brushed and polished surfaces, with thick angled drilled lugs, for a comfortable fit on the wrist. This limited edition of 0428/2,009 pieces is made in collaboration with the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat, whose mission is to conserve the Wadden Sea, the world’s largest tidal system and a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is named after the local dialect DAT Watt of the Wadden Sea. The muscular profile leads to a lug-to-lug length of 50mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. A signed screw-down crown protected by crown guards. A unidirectional stainless steel bezel with deep knurling for grip and a Tungsten 60-minute dive insert. The Sapphire crystal is domed on both sides with AR coating on the inside protecting the blue Fumé dial, which goes from grey on the bottom edge to deep blue, reflecting the night sky with broad faceted baton silver-toned indexes filled with Super Luminova luminescence marking the hours. We have a symbolised 29.5-day lunar cycle moonphase and Northern Hemisphere Tidal range with an arrow point indicator in the centre of the dial. The handset used has sword-shaped silver-toned hour and minute hands filled with Super Luminova luminescence, along with a centre-sweeping second's lollipop hand. A date window at 6 o’clock has a contemporary design of black numerals against a white background. On the reverse, a screw-down case back is embossed with the moon and ocean in the centre and the watch details and a limited number around its edge, inside is the automatic Oris Cal. 761, based on the Sellita SW200-1, the balance has a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour, and the movement contains 26 jewels. The watch has a chunky integrated brushed stainless steel bracelet with a push-button release folding clasp and comes with its Oris presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

Oris never disappoints with their limited editions, especially as they are in response to real-world events, this Dat Watt edition was made in collaboration with the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat, whose mission is to conserve the Wadden Sea, the world’s largest tidal system and a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is named after the local dialect DAT Watt of the Wadden Sea. This model features a truly striking dial and looks incredible both on and off the wrist, I would not hesitate to add this watch to your collection today!

The Brand

Oris was founded by Paul Cattin and George Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein.  They bought a factory and signed a contract with the mayor in 1904. Initially making pocket watches in 1925, they started to add bracelets to their pocket watches, which soon transitioned into the wristwatch. By 1929, they had a total of six factories. At the end of the 1960s, Oris became one of the largest watch companies in the world, producing approximately 1.2 million timepieces a year. In 1982, Dr Rolf Portmann and Ulrich W. Herzog led a management buyout from Swatch Group. Unhappy with the way the Group was running things. Oris SA was born as an independent Swiss watch brand. 2002 saw their distinctive Red Rotor become an Oris registered Trademark.
