The Watch

Here we have a 2021 Kurono Tokyo Toki Salmon Automatic 37mm released in only a 10-minute window for ordering and immediately sold out, celebrating the 2nd Anniversary of the company's conception. The 37mm high-polished stainless steel case curves over your wrist with a lug-to-lug length of 43.5mm and a case thickness of 11mm, ensuring a comfortable fit. Taking its design cues from the Art Deco timepieces of the past. On the right side is a domed crown. The polished smooth bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal, giving the illusion of the plexiglass crystals of the past. The beautiful shade of metallic Salmon with its radial sunburst is inspired by the near-extinct Japanese Ibis feathers. It took Hajime Asaoka many attempts to find the right thickness of paint applied to the dial to achieve its vibrant hue. Under different lighting conditions, the dial shimmers in the light as you rotate your wrist. An outer minute track is precisely printed. Three engraved concentric steel rings with four applied baton indexes catch the light in a mesmerising way. Sculpted brushed hands complemented by a tapered teardrop balanced sweeping second-hand finishing this elegantly understated vision of Japanese creativity and sensibility. The brand motif is found at 12 o’clock with Automatic at 6 o’clock. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the brand motif and details of the designer engraved into it, inside an automatic Miyota 90S5, 24 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, this movement is part of the high-grade Miyota family with hand winding and hacking for your convenience. The watch comes fitted on a Kurono Tokyo 20mm leather strap with a signed buckle and also comes with its Kurono Tokyo presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

I have been fortunate enough to have sold a few Kurono Tokyo Toki's previously and they rarely make it to the website, so this is a great opportunity to pick one up at a great price today. The finishing and tone of the dial is spectacular on and off the wrist, this has to be one of the strongest Salmon dials I have yet seen on a watch. Do not hesitate to book an appointment to see this one in the metal and on your wrist for yourself!

The Brand

Kurono Tokyo was founded by Hajime Asaoka in 2019. He is a Japanese watchmaker, one of only two members of AHCI (AHCI — Académie horlogère des créateurs indépendants). Academy of independent watch artists, since 2015. Renowned for very low production handcrafted watches that sell for upwards of £120,000. He decided to offer a more affordable timepiece that has the same DNA as his more bespoke watches. Each watch is offered in limited numbers and in the case of the Toki was offered for only 10 minutes and was immediately sold out. Production is controlled through Precision Watch Tokyo Co.Ltd, the very same company that Hajime Asaoka uses for his handmade creations.
