The Watch
Unimatic was born in 2016 to much fanfare. The Unimatic Modello Uno is an Italian design, with Swiss asperations. Here we have a 2020 Unimatic U1-FM Limited Edition of 400 pieces. The 41mm brushed stainless steel case curves in all the right places. A lug to lug length of 49mm and a thickness of 14mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side, a signed screw-down crown protected by crown guards. Its 120 clicks uni-directional sterile bezel has a lume pip at 12. A sapphire crystal AR coated sits above a matte black dial. Large disc and baton indexes lume filled with Super-LumiNova C1 White mark the hours. Broad phantom ladder hands filled with the same Super-LumiNova C1 White lume and a black reverse lollipop second hand with a white tip. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with deep engraving Unimatic conversion scale and its number out of 400. Inside an Automatic Seiko NH35A, 24 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on a Unimatic 22mm black Horween Cordovan Shell strap with a signed buckle and also comes with its Unimatic tough case and papers.
Personal Note
Simplicity is key and Unimatic has always executed that beautifully, this U1-FM is a perfect example of that. Whilst certainly not a small watch they do wear very well on the wrist, even on a smaller wrist like mine. Unimatic have been making waves within the collecting community and show no signs of slowing down, I'm excited to see what the future holds.
