The Watch
Here we have a 2020 Emile Chouriet Ice Cliff Blue Automatic with a 40mm polished and brushed stepped case that flows over your wrist thanks to the curved profile; its industrial design is both unique and functional, and the pronounced smooth platform at either end leads the eye towards the flat-ended lugs, plus a lug-to-lug length of 51mm and a case thickness of 10mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side is a signed crown protected by crown guards that are part of the case for a seamless profile. The scalloped polished and brushed bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal above a stunning graduated blue dial with a jagged patterned edge reminiscent of ice cracking. An outer chapter ring has an interesting pattern that reflects the ice cliff surrounding applied Roman and baton indexes filled with Super LumiNova marking the hours; at 3 o’clock, a date window, stylised hands filled with SuperLumiNova are complemented by a tapered second hand, and at 12 o’clock we have the Emile Chouriet motif and at 6 o’clock “Automatic” completing this distinctive sports watch. On the reverse, a sapphire exhibition case back, inside an automatic ETA Cal. 2824-2, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, this movement has bidirectional winding. The watch comes paired with a 22mm polished and brushed H-link stainless steel bracelet with a concealed clasp, plus a 22mm blue fabric strap with a signed buckle, and this watch is sold with its original Emile Chouriet presentation box, swing tag and Emile Chouriet paperwork.
Personal Note
This Emile Chouriet Ice Cliff is for the bargain hunter collectors out there as this watch punches well above its price range in terms of design and build quality. Paired on its bracelet and comes with an original fitted fabric strap, the watch looks like two completely different watches on each, I love it when this happens with a watch as it really increases the value for your money. I would not hesitate to snap this up and add it to your collection, you won't be disappointed!
The Brand
Emile Chouriet is a relatively new member of the Swiss watchmaking industry, having been established in 1998 by Jean Depery. However, the brand's roots are deeply ingrained in the history of Swiss watchmaking, with its namesake being a 17th-century watchmaker who migrated to Geneva, the birthplace of watchmaking, during an era that attracted many skilled artisans. The brand's vision is to merge the time-honoured traditions of Swiss watchmaking with contemporary design and technology, and this philosophy is evident in its diverse collections, which cater to various styles and preferences. For adventure enthusiasts, the Challenger and Lac Leman lines draw inspiration from deep-sea diving, sailing, and mountaineering, offering sporty and rugged collections. On the other hand, the Fair Lady collection features elegant designs inspired by nature and ballet, exuding a sense of grace and refinement. For those who prefer classic and complex timepieces, the Heritier and Voie Lactee collections offer sophisticated models with complications such as moon phases and zodiac signs, which are sure to impress even the most discerning collectors. Emile Chouriet's commitment to quality extends beyond aesthetics, with a team of highly skilled watchmakers who meticulously craft each piece, adhering to stringent quality control standards. This dedication has earned them recognition as a rising star in the world of luxury watches. One of their most significant achievements is the development of their own in-house mechanical movement, a critical milestone for any aspiring independent watchmaker. This accomplishment is showcased in their limited-edition Tourbillon and Minute Repeater models, which are testaments to their technical prowess and commitment to innovation.
