The Watch

Here we have a beautifully sculpted 2020 Chrono Kurono Tokyo Bronze Dial ‘Reiwa’ Classic CT003P, released in December 2019 at the beginning of a new era in Japan, Reiwa is translated to mean “Beautiful Harmony” which is a reflection of the incredible two-part dial design. The 37mm high-polished stainless steel case curves over your wrist with a lug-to-lug length of 43.5mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm ensuring a comfortable fit. Taking its design cues from the Art Deco timepieces of the past. On the right side is a domed crown. The polished smooth bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal giving the illusion of the plexiglass crystals of the past, above the two-part Bronze dial. An outer minute track in Bronze is precisely printed, three engraved concentric steel rings with four applied baton indexes at the cardinal points catch the light in a mesmerising way. Sculpted brushed Kurono Tokyo hands complemented by a tapered teardrop balanced sweeping second hand finishing this elegantly understated vision of Japanese creativity and sensibility. The brand motif is found at 12 o’clock with Automatic at 6 o’clock. On the reverse, a solid screw-down case back with the brand motif and details of the designer engraved into it, inside an automatic Miyota 90S5, 24 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, this movement is part of the high-grade Miyota family with hand winding and hacking for your convenience. The watch comes paired with two Kurono Tokyo 20mm leather straps with a pin buckle and also comes with its Kurono Tokyo presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

I love that Reiwa is translated to mean “Beautiful Harmony”, this Kurono Tokyo is the epitome of that featuring the perfect "Bronze" dial which provides shades of subtle salmon in certain lights and deep bronze in others, incredibly dynamic and mesmerising on and off the wrist.

The Brand

Kurono Tokyo was founded by Hajime Asaoka in 2019. He is a Japanese watchmaker, one of only two members of AHCI (AHCI — Académie horlogère des créateurs indépendants). Academy of independent watch artists, since 2015. Renowned for very low production handcrafted watches that sell for upwards of £120,000. He decided to offer a more affordable timepiece that has the same DNA as his more bespoke watches. Each watch is offered in limited numbers and in the case of this watch was offered for only 10 minutes and was immediately sold out. Production is controlled through Precision Watch Tokyo Co.Ltd, the very same company that Hajime Asaoka uses for his handmade creations.
