The Watch

Here we have the 2018 Oak and Oscar 'Batch Nº1' Chronograph Limited Edition of just 20/25 pieces, a special piece inspired by the Bourbon distillery's use of low batch numbers of their flavourful hand picked releases indicating a higher level of detail and quality control, launched in August 2018, it was only available to Oak and Oscar owners who received an email with a link to the purchase page. This link could be shared among owners' friends, but was never publicly released - a clever way of creating interest and FOMO. The 40mm finely brushed stainless steel case curves over your wrist with tapered lugs. The curved flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 14mm, ensuring a comfortable fit. We have the piston chronograph pushers on the right side and a large, signed, coin-edged crown in the centre. The brushed, smooth bezel holds a double-domed sapphire crystal, AR-coated, above a striking matte white “Panda” dial. A black outer Tachymeter scale chapter ring surrounds polished chamfer-edged baton indexes filled with Super-LumiNova down the centre marking the hours, at 3 o’clock a stacked 12-hour and 30-minute register in black with orange highlights and at 9 o’clock a continuous seconds register in black with white numerals, slender hands are filled with Super-LumiNova and complemented by an orange counterweighted chronograph hand, at 12 o’clock we have the Oak and Oscar motif completing this distinctive bicompax sports watch. On the reverse, a screw-down exhibition case back engraved with the details of the watch and a limited number, inside a manually wound Eterna Cal. 3907M, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, flyback chronograph with a column wheel and stacked register. It comes paired with a 20mm vintage-style leather strap and pin buckle, plus an additional Oak and Oscar strap and Grey Cheapest NATO strap. The watch comes with its Oak and Oscar travel watch case and paperwork.

Personal Note

This Oak & Oscar 'Batch Nº1' Chronograph not only offers incredible value for money for a mechanical chronograph, but it also packs a punch in terms of design and finish. Featuring a wonderful white dial with contrasting grey and orange, all powered by a rarely seen manually wound Eterna Calibre 3907M, which can be admired through an exhibition case back. I would not hesitate to add this limited edition of just 25 pieces to your collection today, whilst you can, who knows when one of the other 24 will eventually come up for sale!

The Brand

In 2015, Chase Fancher founded Oak and Oscar after leaving the real estate industry to pursue a more fulfilling project. Based in Chicago, he has assembled a team of like-minded individuals who are passionate about crafting high-quality timepieces, each with its own unique story. It is uncommon for a young independent microbrand to have its own watchmaker, but Chase has hired Nathan Bobinchak, who holds a certification from the Swiss American Watchmakers Training Alliance at the Lititz Watch Technicum in Pennsylvania. Nathan has been a bench watchmaker and a watchmaking instructor for the Horological Society of New York, utilising his skills to their fullest potential.
