The Watch
Here, we have a classic 1990s Piaget Mécanique 18ct Pink/Rose Gold 'Tank' 9952. A beautifully sculpted 24mm 18ct Pink/Rose Gold Tank-shaped case sits comfortably on your wrist thanks to a lug-to-lug length of 35mm and a case thickness of just 6mm; its ultrathin profile is perfect in form and function. A push/pull crown with a coin edge is on the right side. The domed crystal sits above a stunning silver domed dial. An outer minute track surrounds applied 18ct Pink/Rose Gold Arabic, baton and facet square indexes marking the hours. Two elegant 18ct Pink/Rose Gold dauphine hands sit centrally, creating a superbly balanced, flamboyant timepiece. Piaget motif sits at 12 o’clock. On the reverse, a screwed-down 18ct Pink/Rose gold case back, inside a manually wound Piaget Cal. 9P2, 18 jewels, 19,800 beats per hour. This incredibly thin movement at 2.15mm was part of the 9P family of movements first launched in 1957. It comes paired with a well-suited 18mm leather strap and its 18ct Pink/Rose Gold pin buckle, and it also comes with its 2023 Piaget Service paperwork.
Personal Note
With most of the focus in today's market on beautifully detailed stone dials and mesmerising integrated bracelets, it's shockingly easy for a beautifully simple Piaget like this one to slip through the cracks. Featuring a crisp dial and 18ct Pink Gold 'Tank' case, this Mécanique reference 9952 comes in at an impressive 24mm by 35mm and is powered by the calibre 9P2. I would not sleep on this beautiful watch, instead add it to your collection today whilst you can!
The Brand
Piaget was founded in 1874 in the small Swiss village of La Côte-aux-Fées. Georges-Édouard Piaget had a passion for watches from a young age. He created movements from his workshop. It wasn’t until his son Timothée Piaget took over that the business saw a huge expansion, building a new manufacturing facility. In 1943, Piaget became a registered trademark. They created ultra-thin watches with their 9P Calibre, which was an incredible 2mm thick, and they still hold a world record. Today, Piaget is a subsidiary of the Swiss Richemont group. This group includes Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, IWC Schaffhausen, Panerai, Vacheron Constantin, Montblanc, Dunhill, and Chloé.
