The Watch

Here we have a beautiful 1980s Piaget Malachite Dial 'Tank' Cal 9P 9357 with a 23mm by 30mm 18ct yellow Gold “Tank” case. Elegant chamfered lines lead to softly curved lugs with a lug-to-lug length of 30mm and a case thickness of just 5mm, ensuring a comfortable cushion fit on your wrist. On the right side is a coin-edge crown. A perfectly executed hobnail-textured bezel holds a flat crystal above an unusual and beautiful Malachite sterile dial; elegant Dauphine Hands sit majestically in the centre of this jewel-like dial. On the reverse, a screw-down case back, complete with its hallmark, inside a manually wound Piaget Cal. 9P, 18 jewels, 19,800 beats per hour, this incredibly thin movement at 2mm is still one of the world's thinnest mechanical movements. The watch comes paired with a 16mm leather strap secured by a pin buckle.

Personal Note

Piaget and stone dials, truly is a match made in heaven that spent far too long underappreciated and is now getting the recognition it deserves. This beautiful Malachite example features a elegant hobnail bezel on its square 23mm by 30mm 18ct gold case, it wears surprisingly well even on my 7inch wrist. Whilst the dial does have a small crack in the top left hand corner, it doesn't take away from the beauty on the wrist. I would not hesitate to add this gem to your collection today!

The Brand

Piaget was founded in 1874 in the small Swiss village of La Côte-aux-Fées. Georges-Édouard Piaget had a passion for watches from a young age. He created movements from his workshop. It wasn’t until his son Timothée Piaget took over that the business saw a huge expansion, building a new manufacturing facility. In 1943, Piaget became a registered trademark. They created ultra-thin watches with their 9P Calibre, which was an incredible 2mm thick, and they still hold a world record. Today, Piaget is a subsidiary of the Swiss Richemont group. This group includes Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, IWC Schaffhausen, Panerai, Vacheron Constantin, Montblanc, Dunhill, and Chloé.
