The Watch
Here we have a 1975 Caravelle 'Waterproof' Blue Skin Diver Box & Papers with a 38mm stainless steel case and tapering lugs with a gradual curve, and a lug-to-lug length of 45mm and a case thickness of 10mm to ensure a comfortable fit on your wrist. A friction-fit rotating bezel with a 60-minute scale holds a domed acrylic crystal that sits above a matte blue dial with an outer minute track with Tritium pips surrounding applied square indexes with orange highlights and numerals at 12 and 6. Steel baton hands tipped with Tritium are complemented by a tapered orange centre seconds hand completing the dial. “Caravelle” and “Waterproof” are written on the dial. The screw-down case back houses a manually wound Bulova 11DP, beating at a leisurely 18,000 beats per hour. It is fitted on a 20mm period-correct black tropic strap and is sold with its rare Caravelle presentation box and paperwork.
Personal Note
This Caravelle 'Waterproof' features a warm blue dial with bold and striking pops of orange for the hour markers and central seconds hand, a wonderful combination. Coming in at 38mm this 'skin diver' packs a punch for not a lot of money, especially when you see this comes with its original box and paperwork from 1975 and is paired on a vintage tropic rubber strap. If you are after something vintage and quirky that won't break the bank, look no further, this one ticks the boxes!
The Brand
Caravelle is Bulova's sister company. Introduced in 1962, it offered the consumer a more affordable line of watches while giving them choice without devaluing the Bulova brand. It created and sold American watches with Swiss components and movements.
