The Watch

Here, we have a sophisticated 1970s Piaget Lapis Lazuli Dial 18ct Gold on Bracelet 935C4. The 25mm square 18ct yellow gold case and bracelet have an interesting hobnail texture throughout, and the flowing integrated 18ct yellow gold bracelet provides its seamless profile, sitting on your wrist like a piece of jewellery. A lug-to-lug length of 31mm and a case thickness of just 5mm ensure a comfortable fit. On the right side, there is a coin-edged crown. The slim bezel has a hobnail and engraved baton detailing, holding a flat crystal above the star of the show a Lapis Lazuli dial, an outer minute track in yellow gold surrounds 18ct yellow gold Dauphine hands sitting majestically in the centre; at 12 o’clock, we have the Piaget motif completing this incredible jewel-like timepiece. On the reverse, a screwed-down brushed 18ct yellow gold solid case back, inside a manually wound Piaget Cal. 9P2, 18 jewels, 19,800 beats per hour, this incredibly thin movement at 2.15mm was part of the 9P family of movements first launched in 1957. It is paired with a flowing, integrated 18ct yellow-gold hobnail-textured bracelet secured by a signed clasp. The bracelet has a total length of 17.5mm and will fit up to a 6.85-inch wrist; it has no adjustment.

Personal Note

There is something undeniably beautiful and alluring about a Piaget with a natural cut of Lapis Lazuli with its bold colours and contrasting dark to light spots, this truly stands out from the rest of the stone dials to me. It also doesn't hurt that it is cased in an impressive 18ct gold 25mm by 31mm case featuring a hobnail pattern throughout, all the way to its folding signed clasp. Powered by the manually wound Piaget 9P2 this truly is a work of art from movement, to case, to bracelet and to the dial. I would not hesitate to add this watch to your collection today, opportunities like this do not come up often!

The Brand

Piaget was founded in 1874  in the small Swiss village of La Côte-aux-Fées. Georges-Édouard Piaget had a passion for watches from a young age. He created movements from his workshop. It wasn’t until his son Timothée Piaget took over that the business saw a huge expansion, building a new manufacturing facility. In 1943, Piaget became a registered trademark. They created ultra-thin watches with their 9P Calibre, which was an incredible 2mm thick, and they still hold a world record. Today, Piaget is a subsidiary of the Swiss Richemont group. This group includes Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, IWC Schaffhausen, Panerai, Vacheron Constantin, Montblanc, Dunhill, and Chloé.
