The Watch

Here we have a 1970s Near New Old Stock Movado Tempo-Matic Date with a 34mm round Yellow Gold-Plated case that curves around your wrist thanks to the angled, straight, flat-ended lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 41mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side is a signed Gold-Plated coin-edge push/pull crown. A domed crystal sits above a striking silver dial, with an outer minute track with Tritium pips surrounding applied Gold-Plated batons, and the rectangular indexes are infilled in black, marking the hours; at 3 o’clock, a framed date window, Gold-Plated baton hands infilled in Tritium and black are complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand. At noon, we have the printed Movado motif, and at 6 o’clock, “Tempo-Matic” completes this stylish 1970s versatile dress watch. On the reverse, a stainless steel case back with the Movado logo in relief and SUB-SEA printed in black, inside an automatic Movado Cal. 608, 25 jewels, beating at a leisurely 18,000 beats per hour, an early modified Movado automatic based on the ETA 2742. The watch comes paired with an 18mm leather strap and gold-plated pin buckle, and it comes with its Movado presentation box.

The Brand

Achilles Ditesheim, at the age of 19, founded LAI Ditescheim & Freres SA in 1881. With the help of 6 watchmakers, he built a workshop in the small village of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. In 1905, Achilles Ditesheim renamed his company Movado, which means “always in motion” in the international language of Esperanto. In 1947, Nathan George Horwitt created the single-dot watch dial. In 1960, Horwitts' original design became the first watch dial ever to be accepted by the Museum of Modern Art, New York. In 2017, Movado Group purchased the OliviaBurton brand, which is based in London. It is one of the fastest-growing fashion watch and jewellery brands in the UK. In October 2018, Movado Group acquired MVMT, which specialises in selling quartz watches, sunglasses and jewellery. The Movado Group also owns Concord, Ebel.
