The Watch

Here, we have a fun and quirky 1970s Lanvin Paris "Disco Volante" ETA Mechanical with a round 34mm gold-plated case that sits on your wrist with stubby lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 34mm and a case thickness of just 6.5mm ensure a comfortable fit. On the right side, there is a coin-edged push/pull crown. The domed crystal sits above a dynamic sterile black dial with deep, circular grooves like a vinyl record. Elegant gold-plated Dauphine hands sit majestically in the centre, and the Lanvin Paris motif is proudly stated at the lower right, completing this music-infused timepiece. On the reverse, a stainless steel case back, inside a manually wound ETA Cal. 2512-1, 17 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour; this movement remained in production from 1976 until 1983. It comes paired with a well-suited 18mm leather strap and pin buckle.

Personal Note

This Lanvin Paris 'Disco Volante' is undeniably 1970s with its beautiful black record dial and its hidden lugs, creating a unique wearing experience and something that stands out from the crowd on the wrist. Plus this watch isn't just a looker, it is powered by a manually wound ETA 2512-1. If you want something different in your collection, this is one to seriously consider!

The Brand

The captivating story of Lanvin, one of France's oldest and most esteemed fashion houses, began in 1889 in the quaint confines of a small hat shop nestled in the vibrant heart of Paris. At just 22 years old, Jeanne Lanvin had completed her rigorous apprenticeship and was ready to embark on her entrepreneurial journey. She opened her inaugural hat shop on the upper level of a modest retail space located at 16 Rue Boissy d’Anglas. Displaying an extraordinary talent for design and craftsmanship even at such a young age, her creations quickly gained attention for their elegance and innovation. In a remarkable turning point for her burgeoning career, just four years later, Jeanne secured a commercial lease on the prestigious Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, a street synonymous with luxury and haute couture. This pivotal moment marked the establishment of her eponymous fashion house, which would soon become a beacon of Parisian chic. Her flagship boutique, initially named “Lanvin (Mademoiselle Jeanne) Modes,” drew the attention of the city’s fashionable elite, leading to an explosive success that solidified her reputation in the competitive world of fashion. Jeanne Lanvin continued to enchant her clients with exquisite collections that blended sophistication and whimsy. However, the narrative took a poignant turn on July 6, 1946, when Jeanne Lanvin peacefully passed away at the age of 79. Her legacy did not end with her death; her daughter, Marie-Blanche, stepped into her role, taking on the position of president of the company. Marie-Blanche maintained the creative torch, continuing to design collections until 1950, ensuring that her mother's vision and influence remained alive in the fashion world. Today, the Lanvin Group, overseen by the Chinese holding company Fosun International, has evolved into a broader fashion empire. This includes not only the renowned luxury brand Lanvin itself but also several other prestigious labels, such as the distinguished footwear brand Sergio Rossi, the elegant knitwear brand St John, the tailored menswear brand Caruso, and the chic lingerie and hosiery brand Wolford. Together, these brands uphold the legacy of excellence and innovation that Jeanne Lanvin initially brought to the fashion world.
