The Watch

Clinton Watch Company was established by Hyman Wein, who was a Russian immigrant, living in Chicago in 1922. The name was Trademarked in the U.S. in 1938. Rather than manufacturing his watches in house, he imported reliable cost-effective Swiss movements, which were then assembled and sold in the United States. In the 1960s, his son Irving Wein decided to move the company’s manufacturing to Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Sadly like many small Swiss manufacturers in the 1970s, the company closed its operation and moved to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

We have here a 1970s Clinton World Timer, its 38mm round stainless steel case has crisp lines and a brushed finish. At 43mm lug to lug length, the watch has a great wrist presence. The friction fit rotatable black and red World timer bezel is clearly marked, ready for that globe-trotting journey. The crystal has a cyclops over the date at 3 o’clock. Its black dial has lumed  12,6 and 9 numerals and slim baton markers for the hours, baton indexes have lume down their centers. 24-hour numerals sit under the batons. Broad baton hands with lume infill along with a white center seconds hand. At 3 o’clock a date window. On the reverse a screw-down case back. Inside a Manually Wound Lorsa Cal. P75 17 Jewels 18000 Beats per hour. Fitted on an 18mm nato strap.

Personal Note

I talk about value a lot, but that is because I really do aim to source watches that do offer great value, this is one of them. A super cool designed diver style vintage watch, yes in chrome, but that helps keep the price down, but with a reliable movement and not some lesser pin-lever movement. This really is a great deal for that kind of design, looks great on a budget!
