The Watch

Here we have a 2023 Certina DS Action Diver Automatic Black with a 38mm satin brushed 316L stainless steel case, bevel edges and crisp lines that transition effortlessly across the case towards the tapered lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 44.5mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side, a screw-down double-sealed signed crown protected by crown guards. The unidirectional bezel has a black aluminium dive insert with clearly marked 60-minute numerals coated in Super-LumiNova. A flat sapphire crystal AR coated sits above a black dial, an outer minute track is precisely executed surrounding applied discs and triangular indexes coated in Super-LumiNova marking the hours. At 3 o’clock a small date window. Broad sword hand for the minutes alongside a broad arrow hand for the hours both Super-LumiNova filled complemented by a lollipop counterweighted sweeping seconds hand. At 12 o’clock we have the Certina motif and at 6 o’clock “DS Action Powermatic 80 Divers Watch 200m” completes this unmistakable dive sports watch. On the reverse, a screw-down case back together with the screw-down crown gives the watch its DS (Double Security) ISO-6425 Certification. Around the edge we have the watch details and in the centre the historic turtle emblem. Inside an automatic Powermatic 80 Cal. 80.611, 25 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour, this movement has a base of the ETA 2824-2 and is fitted with a Nivachron alloy flywheel which is resistant to temperature and magnetic fields, helping the watch to be more accurate. The watch comes paired with its satin-brushed 3-link Certina 20mm stainless steel bracelet with a flip lock signed clasp, all links are provided plus an additional 20mm Certina NATO strap, and this watch is sold with its original Certina box, swing tag and Certina paperwork.

Personal Note

Value for money is something I speak about regularly at KibbleWatches and this Certina DS Action Diver Automatic Black 38mm optimised that perfectly! Offered in a universal size at 38mm and featuring all the bells and whistles you'd want in a modern watch, the best part is the price, at under £500 this gives any watch in the same price range a real run for its money!

The Brand

Certina was founded in 1888 by Adolf and Alfred Kurth in Grenchen Switzerland. Where they made movements and supplies for the watch industry. Shortly afterward they started making their own watches and grew their workforce from 3 to 250 in 1938 when they celebrated their 50th Anniversary. By 1955 they had 500 employees and were producing 1000 watches a day. This expansion continued in 1971 when they were producing 600,000 watches every year with a workforce of 900. In 1983 Certina became a member of the Swatch group which they continue to this day.
