The Watch
Here we have a 2023 Baltic Tri Compax Panda Chronograph with a 39.5mm brushed stainless steel case, tapered drilled lugs curve over your wrist, taking its design cues from the racing chronographs of the 1960s from Omega, Rolex and Heuer, and a lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm ensures a comfortable fit. Down the right side polished piston chronograph pushers and a large signed crown in the centre. The fixed bezel has a black Aluminium Tachymetre scale and holds a double domed sapphire crystal for that vintage aesthetic. A matte fine-grained textured beige Panda dial has a black 60-minute scale with lume pips precisely executed surrounding applied polished “12” and baton indexes marking the hours. The Tri Compax consists of 30-minute, 12-hour and continuous seconds, each in black with silver markings and polished hands, a nice contrast to the beige dial. Elegant slender hands have a stripe of Super-Luminova BGW9 and are complemented by a tapered chronograph hand. At noon we have the Baltic motif completing this vintage-inspired sports watch. On the reverse a screw-down case back with the details of the watch around its edge and Baltic sitting proudly in the centre, inside a manually wound Sellita SW510-M, 23 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, the movement has hacking seconds. The watch comes paired with its polished and brushed quick-release 20mm Baltic Flat-Link stainless steel bracelet secured by a push-button release signed folding clasp, all links are provided plus an additional 20 mm Baltic leather strap with a signed buckle, and this watch comes with its Baltic presentation box and paperwork.
Personal Note
Baltic has been producing some killer watches as of late and this Tricompax Panda Chronograph in 39.5mm is no exception and an easy winner for me! Featuring a manually wound Sellita, beautiful contrasting panda dial and perfect proportions, this is one to consider if you are after an affordable chronograph that looks far more expensive than it actually is.
The Brand
Ettiene Malec, a Frenchman, founded Baltic in 2017. The name comes from his father’s birthplace in northern Poland near the Baltic Sea. His inspiration came after finding a suitcase full of his late father's watches with a notebook full of details about the watches. He soon after started to meet other collectors and started to collect himself. Then, seeing the huge interest in vintage timepieces, he completed a Kickstarter campaign with the Baltic HMS 001 and a Bi-Compax 001. Each watch is hand-assembled in France near Besançon. Today the brand continues to grow through its social media presence and its website, to offer contemporary designed, vintage-inspired timepieces.
