Here we have a 2022 Synchron Poseidon Ice Diver Limited Edition of 1000 pieces, building on the success of their faithful reissue homage to the original DOXA Army reference 11891-4 of the 1970s, a very rare watch, they incorporate vintage styling with modern materials and using CNC Technology to create the case. This is their third Military diver and has been designed in collaboration with Swedish dive gear manufacturer Poseidon Diving Systems which introduced the first single hose regulator and a sealing system used in cold water diving, the 42mm brushed Tonneau-shaped stainless steel case sits on the wrist like a cushion, it is a tried and tested formula originally designed and developed by Urs Eschle who was the product manager for the original Doxa Sub and Jacques Cousteau who adopted it in his Aqualung range, with a lug-to-lug length of 45mm and a case thickness of 14mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side slightly recessed is a large signed screw-down crown with deep knurling for extra grip. The unidirectional 120-click bezel has a saw-like serrated edge for grip and a 60-minute sapphire insert with “Old Radium” SuperLumiNova coated numerals, holding a domed sapphire crystal above a high contrast Black and white dial. A black outer minute track has thick white baton indexes filled with “Old Radium” SuperLumiNova marking the hours. At 3 o’clock a date window, yellow framed Ploprof style hands filled with “Old Radium” SuperLumiNova are complemented by a yellow square counterweighted sweeping second hand. In the upper left hand, we have a Synchron motif and “automatic” printed underneath and in the lower right the Poseidon logo, completing this military-inspired dive tool watch. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the engraved Poseidon logo in the centre and the number out of 778/1000 on the outer edge, inside an automatic La Joux-Perret G100, 28 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. This quality movement is designed and manufactured by La Joux-Perret in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The watch comes paired with its 20mm white Isofrane rubber strap with a signed pin buckle plus a 20mm Synchron stainless steel “Beads of Rice” bracelet with a signed folding clasp and safety catch, all links are provided and the watch comes with its Synchron presentation tube and paperwork.
We speak about value for money a lot at KibbleWatches, it's one of the points we focus on when stocking watches, this Synchron perfectly embodies value for money from a "spec sheet" perspective, but also a design and build quality perspective. I wouldn't hesitate on this if you're interested, especially at this price point.
Synchron was created in 1968 in Switzerland to bring together a number of brands utilising each brand's expertise and manufacturer resources, it was part of the larger ASUAG holding company and supported Cyma, Doxa and Ernest Borel at that time. Due to the “Quartz Crisis” in the 1970s, ASUAG sold Synchron in 1980 and the name disappeared. Time quickly passed when in 1999 Rick Marei a dive watch collector, and general manager of the DOXA Sub line of watches until 2018 when he left the current owners, brought back the Synchron Group name resurrecting Aquadive, ISOfrane and Tropic strap brands at the same time. Today they are also distributors of Traser and owners of Aquastar since 2020.
