The Watch
Here we have the charismatic, unworn 2022 Hamilton American Classic PSR Digital Quartz 'Green' H52414131, a modern reinterpretation of the world's first digital quartz watch, the Hamilton Pulsar, with its LED display launched in 1970, at the height of the space race between America and the USSR and was worn by many celebrities including Elvis, Elton John, Jack Nicholson. Its 41mm cushion-shaped brushed stainless steel and chromium case covers the lugs for a flowing, integrated aesthetic. Chromium is a highly resistant alloy to rust, tarnishing and corrosion. The curved brushed flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 35mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a single pusher; the brushed top surface surrounds a sapphire crystal AR coated above a hybrid LCD and OLED digital display with LCD green digital numerals on all the time, and when you push the button in the OLED illuminated dot numerals appear, perfect at night, push the button again for the seconds. We have the Hamilton motif on the bottom right corner of the case. On the reverse, we have a screw-down case back with the details of the watch engraved around its edge and a depiction of a pulsar short for a pulsating star. This spinning neutron star emits pulses of radiation inside a Quartz movement. It comes paired with its 24-mm integrated brushed stainless steel president-style bracelet secured by a signed butterfly clasp. All links are included, and it comes with its Hamilton presentation box and booklets.
Personal Note
It is great to see a strong comeback with this iconic digital design that many brands had in their catalogue in the 1970s and onwards. But at some point, it went out of fashion, and brands moved away from this design overall, but it is back stronger than ever. This Hamilton American Classic PSR in green is amazing on and off the wrist. I would not hesitate to add this to your collection today whilst you can, especially at this price!
The Brand
In 1892, Hamilton was founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and began producing pocket watches; their focus has always been to make accurate, affordable timepieces. In 1914, they became an official supplier to the U.S. Armed Forces during WWI, and they shifted production from pocket watches to the more convenient wristwatch. In 1926, Admiral Richard E. Byrd became the first aviator to reach the North Pole, circling it for 13 minutes before returning to base. He timed this pioneering 15-hour and 57-minute flight with a Hamilton watch. As soon as America joined the Allied forces in World War 2, they stopped producing watches for consumers to focus on the enormous task of supplying the U.S. Armed Forces; they produced over one million timepieces, including wristwatches and marine chronometers, even earning an Army-Navy E award for excellence in manufacturing.
